Amlash
Covering an area of 410 sq. km. this county is bounded northwards to the counties of Langroud and Roudsar, from west and south to Siyahkal county, and eastwards to Roudsar. Geomorphologically, Amlash covers three types of land: Plains, Mountains and mountainsides. The plain is caused by the delta of Shalmanroud, Miyanroud and Kohnegouye. The township of Amlash is located on the base of the delta of Shalmanroud. In the past the plains and mountainsides were covered in thick jungles but nowadays deforestation has taken place and those thick jungles are substituted with tea farms. The most southern part of the county is covered in mountains. The highest peak is called Natashkouh. The plains and mountainsides have moderate Caspian weather, and the Mountainous parts have cold winters covered in snow and cool and mild summers. Amlash was separated from Roudsar in 1376 and has two major districts: Central and Rankouh. Five agglomerations: Amlash jonoubi, Amlash shomali, Samam, Shabkhoslat, Kajido, and also 147 villages, 13 of which are vacant. The Capital of the county is the township of Amlash. The name is made up of two parts: “am” and “lash”. “Am” means RIVER and “lash” means “still”. So it means: the still river. The county, according to the survey of 1385 is home to a population of 46398 people, 38% of whom are urban citizens and 62% are villagers. The economy of the region is based on agriculture and animal farming. The main crops are tea, rice and wheat. Those who live on the plain sights normally keep cows, poultry, and do silkworm farming. In the mountains and mountainsides honeybee farming is common. Seshanbe Bazar “the Tuesday market” is a typical example of weekly local markets in Gilan. The market plays an important role in the economic growth of the region.
