Roudsar

The most eastern county in Gilan, Roudsar covers an area 1331.1 sq. km on the coastline of the Caspian Sea. It is 72 kilometers away from Rasht and geomorphologically it is made up of mountainous and plain-like areas. The mountainous sights cover most of this county and are in the southern parts which are part of Alborz and are called Eshkevar. These rivers are source to all the rivers in the area. Rivers like Polroud and Shalmanroud.  Some of the most important mounts in the area are: Natashkouh, Kalmazou, Kheshtchal and the well-known mount of Samam (3400 m). Roudsar has four districts: Central, Chaboksar, Rahimabad, Rahimabad, and Kalachai. Ten agglomerations: Oushian, Siyakalroud, Eshkevar Oulia and Sayyarsetagh, Eshevar sofla, Rahimabad, Shouil, Bibalan, Machian, Chinijan, and 401 villages, 2 of which are vacant. The population according to the survey of 1385 is 146057. The people in Roudsar speak Gilaki and the accent is called Biepish (east of Gilan). People in Roudsar are Jafari Shiites. In the past the name was “Kutam” and “Housam” and has a very far history. Tinjan, one of the villages in this county used to be a place for making coins during the kingdom of Shah Abbas the first, and some of the coins made there are still available. The people in Roudsar are affectionate and faithful to religious principles. Rabino has mentioned this in his book called “Velayat-e Darolmarz-e Gilan”: the people in Roudsar are known for being pleasant in manner and their affinity for religion.
