Somesara
Covering an area of 572.9 sq. km, Somesara became a county in 1388. It is located 23 kilometers away from Rasht and is neighbor to the counties of Rasht, Fouman, Rezvanshahr, Masal and Anzali. This county is placed on a flat plain and has a very pleasant weather. Somesara has three districts: Central, Kuchak-e Jangal, and Toulam. 7 agglomerations: Hendekhaleh, Gourabzarmikh, Markiyeh, Tahergourab Ziyabar and Kasma. The county has 151 villages, 2 of which are vacant. The population of the county, according to the survey of 1385 is approximately 130802. This county used to be a village in Kasma, but then it developed and now Kasma is a village in Somesara. The name according to one story comes from the name of 4th and 5th century mystic “Sheik Abdullah Somei”. There is an alternative story which claims that the county is named so because there used to be many monasteries there. It is worth mentioning that Kasma was the first military base for the Jungle Movement Lead by Mirza Kuchak Khan. But after a while Mirza commanded that the office should be taken to the house of Haj Mohammad Gholi (known as Darkhaneh), and the Military school of jungle was moved to Hosseiniyeh of Kasma and has become the commanding center of Mirza. The people speak Gilaki and their accent is called Biyepas. Agriculture is the main activity. The important crops are: rice, tobacco and vegetables. The production of rice is the second highest amount in Guilan after Rasht. Silkworm farming and honeybee farming in this county has a top situation in the country. In the section of natural resources, regarding growing pine trees production of wood has the first place. But the county has not made progress in animal farming due to the fact that it is not so vast.
